Summary This position is that of a Supervisory Housekeeping Aid in the Sanitation Section of Environmental Management Service (EMS). The incumbent is responsible for daily supervision of approximately 15/20 Housekeeping Aids. Such supervision includes assigning projects, explaining work requirements, methods and procedures as required, and methodology to promote efficient and economical operations. Incumbent must be able to work any tour of duty that may include weekends ,holidays and irregular tours. Responsibilities Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Incumbent plans and drafts weekly duty schedules, participates in the preparation of the vacation schedules, and approves leave. Establishes deadlines and priorities, especially when short staffed, to provide optimum effectiveness within the limits of available manpower. Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors (i.e. Engineering and Nursing). Determines the number and type of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Redirect Housekeeping Aids and resources to accomplish unanticipated work (work orders and inspections). Informs their superiors if there is a need to revise work schedules and estimate labor and other resources. Makes notes of and reports any areas which require painting, wall washing, drapery cleaning. carpet cleaning: repairs to plumbing, electrical facilities. etc. Assures that adequate levels of sanitary supplies are always available. Inspects work while in progress or upon completion to determine the rate of progress. and whether work performed meets an acceptable level of productivity and quality. Analyzes the performance of marginal employees to determine if weakness is related to improper sequence of tasks, improper frequency, faulty utilization of equipment, supplies, or lack of training, etc. Implements corrective actions within their authority to resolve work problems and may recommend solutions regarding staffing problems or work operations. Incumbent shifts or reassigns personnel as required to obtain maximum utilization of knowledge and skills. Incumbent regularly inspects all assigned equipment and furnishings within assigned area. Initiates work orders or service requests lo obtain repairs to equipment, fixtures, floors, doors, locks, etc. Incumbent will plan and establish overall leave schedules. Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates. Counsels employees whose work, leave or conduct is unsatisfactory. and reviews letters of indebtedness with assigned personnel as required. Recommends disciplinary action on employees as required and indicated by upper management within EMS. Composes and writes counseling reports, reports of contact and other required documentation utilizing a computer. i.e. Microsoft Office Programs, E-mail, and Assist Program etc. Assist in the development of performance requirements develop annual performance ratings and recommends employees for performance awards, reassignments or promotions when applicable. Orientates new employees and participates in both formal and on-the-job training of new and regular personnel. Incumbent must be professional in interacting with the public, professional staff, customers, and other employees. The incumbent is responsible for their assigned housekeeping aid equipment, ensure that preventative maintenance is performed by his/her employees and equipment is safeguarded and used properly by their employees. The incumbent must conduct annual inventory of such equipment. He/she assist in supply economy by encouraging cost consciousness in personnel and proper utilization of supplies. Attends division departmental staff conferences and reports any information pertinent to the Housekeeping operation. Holds staff meetings with assigned personnel and discuss problem areas, safety, training, medical center policy, standard operating procedures, changes in procedures, general information, etc. Work Schedule: Rotational work schedule :7:00 am - 3:30pm or 3:30pm -12:00am. Schedule may change due to Agency needs. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to bend, lift, stoop, pull, climb, push, walk and stand for long periods. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds in special circumstances. I cumbent may be required to assist with movement of furniture when required, move boxes, containers, housekeeping carts, MTS carts and other equipment as needed. Activities are performed indoors/outdoors throughout the medical centers. The incumbent is exposed to dirt, dust, harsh and chemical cleaners and detergents. as well as, excessive noise, bright and dim lights, heat, cold. and other weather conditions.
