ACCOUNTING MANAGER - Well Respected Manufacturer in Duluth

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee and coordinate the daily operations of our client's accounting department. This role, reporting to the Controller, involves managing accounts payable, cash management, inventory, general ledger, government reporting, and the preparation of monthly financial reports. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and leverage industry best practices to align with the company's vision. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for planning, managing, and organizing day-to-day activities, month-end tasks, and workload within the department. This role requires collaboration with internal stakeholders and the parent company to ensure requirements and expectations are met. Additionally, you will lead projects to enhance financial reporting processes, including systems improvements and procedural updates, to streamline month-end close and reporting. Maintaining accounting principles, practices, and controls is crucial to ensure the integrity of financial information. Ad hoc projects may involve reviewing internal controls, streamlining workstreams, and supporting strategic corporate initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage, train, and support a team of 3-4 accounting professionals.

  • Oversee general accounting functions with a focus on process improvement, technology utilization, and refining close reporting processes.

  • Set performance and development objectives for the department, ensuring team members acquire necessary skills and achieve business and personal development goals. Conduct annual performance reviews.

  • Develop and implement new policies and procedures to enhance departmental workflow while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.

  • Oversee the month-end close process for domestic financial records, including reviewing and posting key journals and entries related to sales, cost of goods sold, and expenses. Approve journal entries and ensure timely and accurate financial statements.

  • Manage the general ledger and month-end general ledger close process, including reviewing account activity, preparing journal entries, and reconciling general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Handle sales and use tax calculation and reporting.

  • Assist with various projects related to payroll, assets, and inventory as needed.

  • Provide deliverables and support for statutory and management reporting.

  • Analyze, escalate, and resolve accounting issues, including reviewing and explaining variances and account balance fluctuations.

  • Guide the team on account reconciliation processes.

  • Facilitate month-end flash reporting to corporate.

  • Support annual financial review and audit processes.

  • Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting.

  • Perform other duties as required.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is required.

  • CPA or other professional designation is a plus.

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting, preferably in a manufacturing and distribution environment.

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Experience with SAP is required.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to function productively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Capable of multitasking, managing multiple priorities, and following detailed instructions.
