Job Summary
Cirrus is the largest manufacturer of general aviation propellor aircraft in the United States and is a national leader in Safety Management System (SMS) programs for aircraft design, certification, and production corporations.
The SMS specialist is the primary point of contact for the Cirrus SMS corporate program and supports and integrates all department SMS programs. This position represents Cirrus with the FAA, NTSB, EASA, and other regulators in ensuring SMS program compliance.
This is a full-time position at the Cirrus headquarters in Duluth, Minnesota and is 100% in the office.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Serves as the SMS “Accountable Manager”
Creates, maintains, and updates all SMS corporate documents and co-authors or coordinates SMS documents with other departments
Controls and updates the content of internal SMS webpages
Attends SMS conferences, webinars, and provides internal presentations and external presentations at the national level
Controls the corporate SMS Safety Risk Management (SRM) program to include tracking of high-risk hazards and identification of emerging issues
Manages corporate SMS safety objections including “Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs)” and provides routine updates to all levels of business management and the BOD
Creates, maintains and updates Cirrus SMS training programs, newsletters, and safety promotion activities
Manages SMS internal audit program and coordinates with corporate QA for conduct of these audits
Manages FAA, EASA and other regulator SMS approvals and updates SMS programs to continually align with changes in regulations
Administer all Cirrus SMS committee meetings (including the Cirrus Air Safety Committee (CASC), agendas, to include creation of meeting presentations
Integrates the Flight Safety Reporting program with other voluntary safety programs (VDRP, etc)
Create and manage corporate level BowTie software hazard analysis
Create and maintain corporate SMS risk register
Manages Air Safety accident investigation tracking and closure
Coordinates all IT support for SMS programs
Qualifications/Demonstrated Performance Competencies:
Education: Batchelor Degree desired, Aviation Safety Management degree is ideal
Operational SMS experience highly desired with airline, business aircraft, or aviation manufacturer SMS program
Completion of aviation industry SMS training programs
Experience with aviation Quality Assurance (QA) and auditing programs a plus
Familiar with the following regulatory guidance: FAR Part 5 (SMS for Design and Manufacturing Organizations), FAA AC 21-58, AIA SM-0001, FAA Order 8120.24, ICAO Annex 19 (SMS Manual), SMICG (SKYbrary)
Additional Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
Experience with NTSB investigations a plus
Experience with BowTie hazard analysis software a plus
Training in BowTie software a plus, or will be provided
