City Of Durango Forestry Maintenance Technician in Durango, Colorado

POSITION: Forestry Maintenance Technician

WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS ROLE: Maintain the urban forest, including pruning, tree removal, planting new trees, installing protective fencing for trees, and stump grinding. Provide and maintain safe work environment for both staff and public. Use Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for tree inventory mapping. Assist in maintaining parks, trails, cemetery, and open spaces. Operate power tools and heavy equipment, including wood saws, chainsaws, leaf-blowers, weed trimmers, backhoes, aerial bucket trucks, dump trucks, farm tractors, and Bobcat Tool Cats.

REQUIREMENTS: Equivalent to completion of high school or GED. Valid state driver's license. One to two years of experience in forestry or equivalent education, training, and experience. Strong knowledge of arboriculture. Basic understanding of practices, methods, and materials used in forestry and general maintenance work. Ability to identify basic tree species.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of lifting/moving or force and occasional lift, move or drag 100 pounds or more while performing essential functions of the job. Work regularly requires the ability to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance, climb, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others in English. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth. Ability to recognize occupational hazards in work activities and take safety precautions. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability to make sound decisions and following directions. Ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment.

WAGES: 19.70 Hourly.

SHIFTS: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

JOBS SITE: Durango, CO.
