Position Summary:

The Automation Engineer at bioMérieux plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of Manufacturing and Packaging Automation Systems. This includes supporting and maintaining PLCs, HMIs, Robots, SCADA Systems, and Vision Inspection Systems. As a subject matter expert, the Automation Controls Engineer combines technical expertise with industry standards to optimize system performance and compliance. This position reports to the Associate Director of Automation Engineering and offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to bioMérieux mission of improving global public health through in vitro diagnostics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on support for automation systems, diagnosing and resolving issues promptly.

  • Act as a go-to resource for process automation-related matters (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, Data Historians, Fanuc Robots, Cognex Based Inspection systems, etc.).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain system uptime and reliability.

  • Implement planned modifications to existing systems, focusing on safety, product quality, and cost reduction.

  • Maintenance and programming of Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and SLC PLCs.

  • Develop Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View ME HMIs and FactoryTalk View SE and Wonderware Intouch SCADA Systems.

  • Create and/or revise Engineering lifecycle documents for new and existing automated manufacturing systems.

  • Lead or participate in commissioning and qualification activities (e.g., SAT, IQ, OQ) and conduct verification activities as required by the site change control program.

  • Apply good engineering practices, cGMP, and GAMP standards to ensure compliance.

  • Contribute to small to medium-scale automation projects, from concept to implementation.

  • This position may occasionally require some work to be done during non-standard work hours. Examples include, but are not limited to general maintenance activities, automation upgrades, hardware and/or software migrations, and system validations.

    Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant work experience with computers and automation systems support in a manufacturing environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science Preferred

  • A High School Diploma or GED with 10+ years of experience supporting computer and automation systems in a manufacturing environment also accepted

  • AAS Degree with 7+ years of experience supporting computer and automation systems in a manufacturing environment also accepted

  • Hands on experience programming PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA Systems

  • 5+ years of experience working in a cGMP manufacturing environment preferred

  • Experience with Rockwell Automation or Siemens highly preferred

  • Experience with ControlLogix /CompactLogix PLC Hardware PlatformsRSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 and/or FactoryTalk View Studio highly preferred

  • Experience with Vision Systems is a plus

  • Experience with Drives/Motion (Kinetix drives, PowerFlex VFD drives, other drives etc.) is a plus

  • Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation experience preferred
