Join Our Dynamic Team as an Operations Manager at Our East Chicago Plant!

The East Chicago plant is seeking a passionate and experienced Operations Manager to lead our operational and logistics activities and teams. This role offers the opportunity to drive strategic initiatives and ensure excellence in EHS performance, product quality, production volume, cost management, customer satisfaction, employee development, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Management of production direct labor (25 direct reports including Operations Supervisors, Operators and a Planner) for efficient plant schedule attainment through shift supervisors and scheduling of overtime if required. Assist and facilitate training of operators in all production areas.

  • Promotes Union / Management relationship and participates in various meetings concerning grievances, labor contract negotiations, and quality of work life.

  • Fairly and impartially enforces all safety, quality, work, and productivity rules and standards and elevates issues as needed.

  • Ensures EHS compliance of multiple operating areas, and directs and/or participates in all required EHS programs.

  • Communicate with the Maintenance Department on equipment problems and correctable maintenance safety problems; follow-up to ensure that they are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Provides leadership to direct reports along with facilitating career development, performance goals, and feedback discussions.

  • Promotes the development of a continuous improvement culture, including Six Sigma and Lean tools.

  • Updates forecasting and continuously review the plan compliance with respect to production, yields and fixed costs.

  • Ensures site utilization of MRP/ATP systems covering raw material ordering through finished goods shipment.

  • Ensures the accurate accounting close for month end reporting.

  • Investigates and explains manufacturing variances that deviate from the plan.

  • Leads communication and recognition efforts for all Operating areas.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of manufacturing

  • 2+ years in a leadership role

  • Working knowledge of PSM programs

  • Must have chemical / petrochemical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Team leadership and coordination skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong ownership to drive organization results and improvement

  • Union experience
