New York City Health + Hospitals Correctional Health Services Supervisor of Nurses, Correctional Health Services, **Night Tour** (8:00pm8:30am Sun, Wed, Sat), CDUWF in EAST ELMHURST, New York

Position Description:Nurses work in collaboration with physicians to provide patients with care, education, and support. Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Coordinating and assigning duties to other health care personnel, such as licensed practical nurses, nursing aides, and patient care associates. Scheduling note: Nurses are required to work every other weekend.Under the guidance of the facilitys Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), the Patient Care Coordinator (PCC)/Supervisor of Nurses (SON) is responsible for directing and administering nursing care to patients. They/he/she coordinates activities through collaboration with physicians, administration, pharmacy, clerical, and correctional staff, etc. They/he/she is guided by a thorough knowledge of principles of nursing based on biological, physical, and psychosocial sciences. The/he/she possesses a working knowledge of principles of leadership and utilizes that knowledge in guiding and directing nursing staff. They/he/she assists the ADON in ensuring compliance with standards, policies, and procedures of NYC Health & Hospitals and the Correctional Health Services Department of Nursing. The selected candidate will work with ADULTS between sixteen and eighty, and infants from birth to one year of age.  Preferred SkillsFor individuals holding an unrestricted registered professional nursing license BEFORE July 1, 2020 in New York State, another state or United States territory:A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; andHolds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); andThree (3) years of experience as a registered nurseFor individuals issued a registered professional nursing license on or AFTER July 1, 2020, based on expected implementation of Chapter 502 of the Laws of 2017 and Chapter 380 of the Laws of 2018:A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; andA Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing or higher (or other nursing degree, as identified by NYS Education Department including Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Science) from an accredited college or university, registered with the NYSED; orObtains a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing or higher, as described in a above, within ten (10) years of the date of initial licensure; and Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.   Detailed TasksProvide direct patient care as necessary.Coordinate the nursing care provided for patients within a given unit by:Assigning appropriate nursing staff for patient care activities such as admissions, sick calls, treatments, medications, unit rounds, follow-ups, etc. Assisting the ADON and nurse schedulers with staffing needs and communicating staffing concerns immediately with the ADON.Utilizing therapeutic communication skills and effective interviewing techniques to elicit pertinent historical information
