Position Summary

The Arts, Cultural Management, & Museum Studies program at Michigan State University is currently establishing a pool of fixed-term assistant professors, instructors, and assistant instructors. These positions will be filled per course/per semester on an as-needed basis. Applicants in this pool are reviewed when the program has an immediate need to fill a vacancy as needed within two years to begin as early as August 16, 2024.

Duties: Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Arts, Cultural Management, & Museum Studies. Arts and Cultural Management courses include: strategies, promotions, and e-Commerce, event production and planning, education and outreach, leadership and innovation, development and public relations, facilities and operations, non-profit law, policy and advocacy, and 5-week experience (special topics) courses in Arts & Cultural Management. Museum Studies courses include: foundations of museum studies, learning in museums, curatorial practices, exhibition theory and design, collections management, and 5-week experience (special topics) courses in Museum Studies.

Required Degree

Doctorate -BA, MA, MFA, or PhD in the arts, humanities, and/or museum studies

Minimum Requirements

BA in the arts, humanities, and/or museum studies for Assistant Instructor rank

MA in the arts, humanities, and/or museum studies for Instructor rank

MFA or PhD in the arts, humanities, and/or museum studies for Assistant Professor rank

  • Professional experience related to the management and advocacy of museums, arts, and/or cultural organizations or industry dimensions of an artistic and humanistic entrepreneurial field.
Desired Qualifications

BA, MA, MFA, or PhD in the arts, humanities, and/or museum studies

  • Experience teaching at the college level preferred.
  • Professional experience related to the management and advocacy of museums, arts, and/or cultural organizations or industry dimensions of an artistic and humanistic entrepreneurial field.
  • Ideal candidates will also have a minimum of five years of experience in the arts, cultural, or museum field and coursework in Arts & Cultural Management or Museum Studies, an MA or PhD in a relevant field.
