Position Summary

The Asia Hub is a unit established in 2022 in the International Studies and Programs (ISP) at Michigan State University. Its mission is to reimagine research and education partnerships in Asia through a network of institutions to solve problems and create opportunities through shared visions, innovation, and responsibilities. A major activity of Asia Hub involves promoting, facilitating and coordinating collaborative research and education across MSU campus and with international partners across Asia.

The Asia Hub is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join their team as a Program Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, a strong writer and communicator, equipped to support communications, events, proposal preparation, and webpage design and maintenance. This position is essential in promoting Asia Hub's mission and providing critical support across various academic and outreach activities with both MSU faculty and international partners.

ISP is currently operating under a hybrid modality structure, with staff working three days in person and two days remote.

Duties

Development support for new Office of South Asia Programs

  • Serve as the main point person for this new initiative
  • Coordinate virtual workshops
  • Coordinate proposal development with core partners and key stakeholders
  • Develop proposals with MSU faculty and local partners

Program proposal support

  • Provide administrative support to Asia Hub for proposal development
  • Budget coordination between various stakeholders
  • Coordinate proposal development within university systems
  • Monitor and support agency submissions

* Event planning and coordination*

  • Support implementation of Asia Hub events / meetings on MSU campus and overseas in coordination with local hosts
  • Coordinate planning meetings for the team
  • Manage the agenda and post activity reports 
  • Coordinate with the local host financial and logistical support
  • Serve as the point of contact for all staff, faculty, and students from other departments on campus and outside of MSU

Coordinate external communications

  • Compile content for monthly newsletter
  • Oversee and maintain unit web page, ensuring accessibility, relevance, and appeal
Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Social Science, Education, Communications or Business related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and managing special events; organizing and disseminating materials and information; experience in database, spreadsheet, word processing, knowledge web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with event coordination, academic writing, proposal drafting, or similar activities is highly advantageous

Proficiency in digital communication platforms, web content management systems, and graphic design tools

Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently, and collaboratively as a member of a team with offices and partners at MSU and South Asia, take initiative, be flexible, learn quickly, work effectively, and complete assigned tasks
