Position Summary

The Office of K-12 Outreach is looking for an accountant to support the growing needs of our dynamic university service office. This role involves creating and managing annual budgets, and regularly monitoring financial performance on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual basis. The accountant will provide financial updates and projection reports to the Director and Director of Programs for K-12 Outreach, the Dean's office, and relevant funding agencies. Key responsibilities include approving all financial e-documents, managing expenditures through PCards, purchase orders, and service contracts, and ensuring all expenses comply with grant guidelines and project scopes. Additionally, the accountant will assist in developing financial policies, accounting controls, and procedures for travel and out-of-pocket reimbursements to ensure compliance with grant requirements and support general office operations.

This is a part-time (65%) position. 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, accounting procedures and developing accounting controls, policies and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Desired Qualifications

-Experience working with grant and foundation funding in an academic setting.  -Prior successful and efficient experience routing e-documents through MSU's account system, Kuali. -A deep and working knowledge of MSU's Office of Sponsored Programs and Contract and Grant Administration is highly desired. -Ability to be an independent thinker, self-starter, and problem solver, with the ability to work as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team. -Ability to ensure compliance with grant requirements and financial regulations. -Proven experience in accounting or financial management.  -Understanding of university business policies, procedures, and audit controls; understanding of the business operations of Michigan's K-12 schools.
