Manager of Operational Technology System

Position Summary

The Manager for the Operational Technology Systems manages the administrative and operational activities of the Operational Technology Systems team; manages and supervises daily team operations, issues, prioritization, capacity planning, and resource allocation for projects and operational support in support of the portfolio and service delivery.

Supervises/oversees assigned projects/initiatives/tasks including:

  • Projects and critical internal unit initiatives of medium to large size and/or complexity, coordinating across multiple teams

  • Process improvement/reengineering activities for a MAU or the university

  • Technical landscape remediation efforts and ongoing technical debt retirement and re-platforming the OT infrastructure

  • Designs, develops, tests and implements complex OT systems, infrastructure and applications

  • Oversees the investigation and promotion of the use of new technologies

  • Participates in collaborative planning, workshops, conferences and training to ensure constant professional growth and progress toward future state information technology

  • Participates as a member of IPF IT, Federated IT and MSU IT leadership teams to establish, review, monitor and recommend enhancements to short-term operational objectives and long term strategic goals.

  • Provides forecasting, information, status and metrics in support of departmental and institutional reporting needs

  • Consults with customers, peers and campus administrators regarding technical solutions

  • Coordinates with project managers and the PMO to optimally resource and deliver successful projects

  • Plans, organizes and manages projects, including project budgets and oversight of expenditures

  • Participates in staff resourcing, interviewing and selection, on-boarding and evaluation

  • Motivates staff and addresses performance and behavioral concerns

  • Coaches staff through conflict resolution

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed, including experience overseeing large, complex or critical information technology projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in deploying and maintaining enterprise software solutions

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead in a dynamic, cross functional team environment

  • Strong oral and written skills, including the ability to document issues and resolutions (including performing root cause analysis)

  • Understanding of networking infrastructure in a operational environment

  • Strong understanding of applications and how they relate to the operational environment
