Michigan State University(MSU) Specialist - Outreach-Fixed Term in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

The Upward Bound Program Coordinator reports to the Director and assumes responsibilities as assigned.  They will work closely with the Director to ensure that the grant's program goals and objectives are met.  The program coordinator deeply understands current trends in higher education as they relate to low-income and first-generation students and how best to serve them.  They will coordinate and monitor activities in assigned schools (per grant requirements) to ensure that program objectives are not only being met but exceeded.  They will also implement curricula and tools that are educational, and impactful that will lead students entering post-secondary education and graduating.The Upward Bound Coordinator will also assist in developing and coordinating a curriculum (virtual when needed) that assists students in assigned schools to excel in high school, graduate, enter college, and graduate from a post-secondary institution of their choice.

Minimum Requirements

Master's Degree

At least 5 years of experience working with disadvantaged school children. • An understanding of current trends in education as they relate to disadvantaged students •  Work with a database of basic contact info for program participants in their school(s). • Have a good understanding of how state and federally-funded programs operate in conjunction with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). • Must complete and pass a Youth Program Criminal Background Check (CBC) through Michigan State University. • Develop and maintain connections with the Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), the 14 public universities outside of Michigan State University, and the partnerships connected to the grant, to better serve students.  • Candidate must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to operate university vehicles if necessary.

Desired Qualifications

Experience speaking to students, parents, and school representatives virtually and in person.

Ability to develop a database of basic contact info for program participants in their school(s).
