Michigan State University Specialist - Teacher-Fixed Term in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

Michigan State University (MSU) College of Engineering is seeking an innovative Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering Teaching Specialist to develop and teach courses at the undergraduate level in circuits, electronics, embedded systems, sensors, and signal processing. This Electrical Engineering Teaching Specialist position is a full-time, fixed-term, academic year (9-month) appointment with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2025. The appointment is a renewable three-year contract, contingent upon positive annual performance reviews and mutual agreement. While this position is offered on a fixed-term basis, we are actively seeking individuals who aspire to establish a lasting career in teaching and academic service at our institution.

The selected candidate will join the faculty team of the new Bachelor of Science in Technology Engineering (TechE) program. This multidisciplinary program integrates expertise from mechanical, electrical, computer engineering, and computer science. Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree by position start date;

  • strong communication skills;

  • demonstrated experience in working directly with the application/ instruction of circuits, electronics, sensors, or controls; and

  • ability to engage with undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds and explain complex topics in an understandable way.

    Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant professional licensing and/or certifications

  • Experience with curriculum development

  • Three or more years teaching undergraduate engineering

  • Three or more years of industry experience

  • Additional experience with hardware and software cybersecurity is a plus

The new Technology Engineering Program in the College of Engineering at MSU is a collaboration of faculty, staff, students, and industry to develop a program that incorporates computer science and engineering principles and prepares students to succeed academically and professionally. Courses in cybersecurity, embedded systems, automation, data science, and computer hardware/software development, for example, utilize hands-on, real-world projects to integrate modern technologies with the foundational engineering mindset.
