Position Summary

The Student Services Assistant II for Recruitment, Selection and Training position is responsible for directing the recruitment, selection and training activities for student, graduate assistant, and full-time live-in staff for the Department of Residence Education and Housing Services; this includes recommending and executing inclusive and equitable recruitment strategies, managing and/or overseeing selection processes, leading the coordination efforts of team member/staff training, and professional development initiatives for the live in staff.  This position frequently collaborates with department, division, and university partners and has supervision responsibilities for 1-2 graduate assistants.  The Assistant Director for Recruitment, Selection, and Training performs many administrative responsibilities and serves as a leader for unit selection and training activities.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as Chair on a number of committees and coordinates hiring, training, employee development and performance management and/or related human resources activities for a large residence education unit Serves on the Residence Education Leadership Team that sets the direction and leads initiatives for Residence Education
  • Directly supervises graduate students and/or interns
  • Initiates and manages equitable and inclusive recruiting, interviewing, processing of hiring information, departmental orientation/onboarding, and training for live in student and regular employees
  • Assists in identifying and implementing departmental training and employee development activities.
  • Communicates with internal stakeholders and university partners regarding recruitment, selection, and training.
  • Maintains and recommends updates to departmental job descriptions and related task information.
  • Prepares and assists in preparing manuals, procedural guides, reports, spreadsheets, and communications for candidates, staff, and university partners.
  • Conducts investigations, assists supervisors in issuing disciplinary actions, and coordinates with RHS Human Resources regarding performance and behavioral issues for live-in staff members.
  • Reviews recruitment, selection, training practices to be in alignment with equity and inclusion goals.
  • Work collaboratively with university departments to ensure training is holistically developed.
  • Chairs the training absence excusal process
  • Participates in special projects and committees.
  • Collaborates with department and division human resource and training personnel.
  • Maintains confidentiality and responsibly respond to sensitive information.
  • Performs general administrative activities as assigned, including tasks such as email, record management, file audits, and record keeping.

     

All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Masters in Administration or a Behavioral Science field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in administration, program development and personnel development and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
