Women & Gender Equity Program Assistant

Position Summary

The Women and Gender Equity (WAGE) Program Assistant is responsible for coordinating, implementing and maintaining the services and programs of the office of Women and Gender Equity by supporting office functioning, supervising undergraduate student staff, and implementing individual and community development programs; provides financial and operational support for the WAGE office; supports the director in various administrative tasks and serve as a key collaborator and thought partner with the director on WAGE initiatives; serves as the primary coordinator of programmatic efforts of WAGE, including developing, coordinating, implementing, and promoting programs and events; serves as a direct contact for undergraduate and graduate student organizations; works closely with the graduate and undergraduate student staff and interns to manage social media, publish weekly newsletter, and updates website; demonstrates an intersectional lens when working with students to enhance the educational experience of women students and all impacted by gender-based oppression through initiatives that support individual academic success and well-being, community development, and intercultural competence; interacts with and responds to student needs and the needs of the campus community in alignment with the universities core values of quality, inclusiveness, and connectivity; educates the campus community about women's and gender issues among students that result in a safer, more respectful, and more welcoming campus; partner with campus collaborators to promote women and students success and well being; provides intersectional, educational, and social programming and collaborates with student leaders and campus partners to build community and increase a sense of belonging; other administrative duties as assigned.

The Women and Gender Equity office is a student-centered campus resource that works to advance gender equity for all students in the MSU community through intersectional educational and social programming.  Through education, engagement, advocacy, and student support, WAGE works to create an inclusive campus culture for women and all those who have been impacted by gender-based oppression.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Masters in Administration or a Behavioral Science field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in administration, program development and personnel development and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Written and verbal fluency in foreign language may be required.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in student affairs, social work, LGBTQIA2S+ studies, or women/gender studies

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of national trends associated with women and gender issues and working knowledge of current trends in higher education; experience working with diverse populations; experience with student leadership development as an advisor or through other leadership roles; ability to communicate effectively and positively, through oral and written communications; experience with word processing, database, desktop publishing, web page design, social media and maintenance software; organizational skills that include effective planning, time management and multi-tasking. Three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in developing and implementing programs, policies and procedures, and coordinating staff
