Cornell Cooperative Extension Communications & Events Coordinator - Energy Program - East Meadow, NY in East Meadow, New York

This position will serve as the Communications and Events Coordinator for the Community Energy Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County and will provide administrative direction, management and coordination of all communications and marketing related to the Community Energy Program. This position will plan, initiate and facilitate a variety of marketing, event coordination and development plans/activities to meet overall goals and objectives of the Community Energy Program.

The Community Energy Program seeks to serve members of disadvantaged communities with education and support for reducing home energy use and transitioning to renewable energy, as well as lifting up their voices to contribute to state programming and policy. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a communications and marketing strategy, using a variety of media, including regular newsletter/newspaper articles and case studies, and radio and mailer ads.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Education (Associate’s Degree and 2 years transferrable program/functional experience).

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Valid New York Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.

  • Experience working with non-organizations.

  • Knowledge of grant funded programs and how they operate.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to participate in professional team efforts.

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means using traditional educational tools and methods.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    Administrative Responsibilities:

    Direction - 10%

  • Provide input to support the planning of educational programs to include, but not limited to planning the delivery of established educational program goals and planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.

  • Provide input in anticipating or planning for Community Energy Program expenses related to marketing, communications, and events.

  • Assist the Supervisor by providing program related information to the budget development process and assist in allocating budget amounts.

  • Provide moderately complex administrative assistance to include, but not limited to, planning for mass media efforts related to the Community Energy Program; assisting in planning effective strategic marketing efforts, including major public affairs events and functions.

  • Assist in the writing and development of annual reports and progress assessments to secure funding for ongoing/expanded programming efforts.

    Management - 75%

  • Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the Community Energy Program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, as needed.

  • Assist in ensuring the Community Energy Program activities conform with the Association’s Plan of Work.

  • Support the allocation of program resources to accomplish Association program objectives within the Community Energy Program.

  • Assist with the monitoring of Community Energy Program income/expenses to ensure spending is within the program budget constraint.

    Coordination/Operation - 10%

  • Organize and coordinate all communication, marketing, and event activities related to the Community Energy Programming.

  • Maintain relationships with constituents and the community by utilizing various methods of communication such as writing newsletters, sending emails, updating social media, and creating website postings and content in support of Community Energy Programming.

  • Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.

  • Collect evaluation data and program needs assessments from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.

  • Under the direction of the Supervisor, provide moderately complex administrative support to prepare materials for report submission to meet grant/contract funding requirements, including, but not limited to: impact statements and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board of Directors and others as requested.

  • Under the direction of the Supervisor, provide moderately complex administrative support to accomplish financial goals within the Community Energy Program to include, but not limited to: preparing materials for grant/contact proposal submission and providing required information needed in the financial documentation to meet the grant/budget requirements.

  • Under the direction of the Supervisor, coordinate and assist with Community Energy projects and outreach efforts as instructed.

  • Coordinate effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.

  • Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.

  • This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.

    Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

    POSITION DETAILS:

    This position is a full-time, exempt position, 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $62,400.00 to $65,000.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation and sick leave.
