Holtec International Inspection Supervisor in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Quality Manager the Quality Inspection Supervisor is responsible for oversight of the quality control inspectors (NDE and Non-NDE) which includes maintaining their qualifications, certification records, scheduling of inspectors, and for assuring that work is done in accordance with the company quality procedures . The Quality Inspection Supervisor will establish priorities and enforce inspection procedures along with monitoring progress to ensure that inspectors meet deadlines and uphold quality standards.

Job Prerequisites and Qualifications:

  • Has a systematic approach to work, shall be detail oriented, and shall be able to finish assignments with little supervision. 

  • At a minimum, shall be qualified as a SNT-TC-1A NDE Level II in Visual and Liquid Penetrant Examination Must be able to pass Holtec NDE examinations in VT and PT (which are consistent with ASNT requirements)

  • Must have a minimum of two years of documented experience in mechanical (dimensional) inspection.

  • Knowledge of other NDE methods including ultrasonic examination, magnetic particle examination and radiography is preferred.

  • 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience is preferred.

  • Good computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Excellent communication skills, organizational and time management skills

  • Good teamwork skills and the ability to participate in teams.

  • Ability to be a leader.

  • Comfortable with multi-tasking

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to think critically.

  • Prior experience working with coordinated measuring machines (CMM) is a plus.

  • Ability to travel to job sites, vendors and remote manufacturing facilities as required, <30% travel.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk and hear, and stand for long periods of time. The associate is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, and use repetitive motion.  The associate may be exposed to adverse environmental conditions, such as in a typical warehouse or external loading areas.

  • This role can be physically demanding and may require the ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

    Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports Quality and Operations

  • Handles daily planning and scheduling.

  • Evaluate the department workload and determine the appropriate shifts.

  • Training and qualification of new employees

  • Ensure consistency in daily shift activities.

  • Assure that inspectors follow work instruction and procedures for each job assignment.

  • Review and monitor customer and work order requirements on each production order.

  • Inform Project Manager or Quality Manager of discrepancies or noncompliance’s that do not meet quality or customer requirements.

  • Work from drawings, work orders, and instructions covering production parts or tooling requirements. 

  • Enforce all safety and quality requirements and wear all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.

  • Ensure that there is adequate coverage to inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.

  • Observe work activities to ensure that operators, Inspectors conform to production or processing standards.

  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers as needed.

  • Keep records of employees’ attendance and hours worked.

  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine coverage requirements.

  • Communicating with Production and Engineering on any issues found during the process of evaluating material and ensure that corrective actions are documented and in place.

  • Orchestrating set up and performance of destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.

  • Ensuring that the quality control activities are being conducted in accordance with QA Program and procedure requirements.

  • Assign qualified personnel to handle Calibration of measuring and test equipment.

  • Conduct Internal Surveillances as needed.

  • Performing NDE and mechanical inspections when needed
