SHOP MANAGER

Primary Job Functions

 

  • Responsible for the Safety/Quality/productivity of the specific Shop being managed.

  • Direct and coordinate various projects within the specific shop being managed.

  • Identify, recommend and impellent changes to improve productivity and reduce manufacturing hours where possible while maintaining a high standard for quality and safety.   

  • Manage and supervise associates in a fair and consistent manner to ensure compliance with company policies, procedure and safety rules and provide appropriate feedback and /or disciplinary measures as needed. 

  • Be aware of delivery priorities and schedules and adjust production schedules as needed when conditions require. 

  • Serve as a contributing member of the plant management staff team and support the achievement of company objectives.

  • Ability to communicate and present information to individuals and groups; ability to listen and respond promptly to others.

  • Organizational and time-management skills to achieve established goals.

  • Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with others, encourage teamwork and cooperation.

  • Leadership skills to coordinate, facilitate, and participate in a collaborative approach to complete tasks and assignments.

  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) preferred.

  • Ability to read drawings, layouts, and blueprints required.

  • Ability to manage in a union environment

  • Ability to work/manage off shift personell.( supervisors)

  • Ability to work in a demanding user environment - work under pressure

  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities, good reasoning abilities and make sound judgments

  • Should be a self-starter with good organizational skills and adapt to a flexible schedule

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk and hear, and stand and walk for long periods of time in the supervision of the crew members and the productive work. The associate is frequently required to stand/walk (85% of the workday), climb, lift, and carry (up to 20 pounds); infrequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, lift (up to 50 pounds), grasp, feel, and use repetitive motion.  The associate may be exposed to adverse environmental conditions to include cold, uneven walking surfaces, dust, such as in a typical manufacturing environment.

    Requirements/ Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering preferred or high school Diploma and 3+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial manufacturing facility.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement continuous improvement in all areas of the business.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, oral, listening).

  • Ability to build constructive and effective relationships throughout the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the performance of production associates in the areas of safety, people, quality, customer responsiveness and cost.

  • Must be able to work with multiple levels of the organization to complete goals.

  • Problem-solving skills and detailed oriented

  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments with little supervision

  • Working knowledge of ASME Codes, ASNT and NDT/NDE inspection and testing methods preferred.
