Summary:

Under the supervision of the Tax Collector, the Accounts Maintenance Clerk

accepts and processes payments from the public for tax bills, water bills, and special assessments, and performs related duties in the Treasury Office.

General Responsibilities

Provides customer service to taxpayers and customers.

Processes and records payments from the public for tax bills, water bills, and special assessments using a computerized accounting system.

Verifies

cash, checks, and receipts, balances cash drawer daily, and prepares daily deposit.

Responds to telephone and email requests for detailed information regarding tax procedures, interest charges, tax sales, water billings, etc.

Researches and prepares certified municipal lien requests.

Serves as a liaison between the Treasury and Water Divisions for customers who seek information related to water services.

Performs related work as required.

Desirable Abilities, Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

Knowledge of accounting procedures and regulations related to taxation.

Strong mathematics skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills (Spanish and Portuguese preferred).

Experience using computer applications and platforms for tax collection and/or accounting.

Experience engaging with the general public in a customer service role.
