The Health Advocacy Specialist will serve as the program liaison for the patient and the institution. This role is responsible for outreaching the patient, assessing appropriateness for the program, scheduling testing, processing payments, and ensuring all processes have been followed within program guidelines.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate all health equity programs including patient outreach, funding assignment, and billing.
Track and monitor all provider ordered testing and submit medical information to payor.
Support screening program eligibility and assigning appropriate billing account/sub account.
Understand basic charge entry and medical data extraction.
Work with Hospital and Physician specialty billers for payment on accounts to insure coverage.
Review all in-basket messages to help make sure patients are being directed to the correct department for timely resolution of questions/concerns.
Available for out of the normal questions or concerns that arise-connecting team to the right resources or hands on assisting with the problem/issue related to health equity.
Reviewing treatment plans and diagnosis codes double to check to make sure correct and proper billing.
Support screening and community events as needed.
Other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sits up to 6 hours a day for 2 hours at a time. Stands for up to 3 hours a day for up to 1 hour at a time. Walks up to 4 hours a day for up to 15 minutes at a time. Frequently uses the fingers and hands to manipulate objects. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes and/or pulls up to 10lbs. Occasionally/rarely lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls objects of greater weights. Must have ability for touching as it relates to perceiving attributes of an object. Must have the ability to hear normal conversation. Must have the ability for seeing as it relates to general, near, far, color, peripheral vision. Must have visual attributers of depth perception and visual monotony. Frequently must reach above shoulder level. Occasionally must stoop, bend & crouch.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma required, associate degree or higher education preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year experience in medical setting, billing, or medical office. Basic understanding of charge entry, medical data, and medical record navigation.
