Plastics Equipment & Maintenance Technician, 3rd Shift, Easton PA GENERAL SUMMARY: This position provides hands-on technical support for the operation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of plastic injection molding machinery and support equipment. It is a key resource for equipment installation, debug and commissioning to manufacturing, as well as being the technical resource for all plastic injection molding equipment training. This position will coordinate and manage outside contractors in support of equipment repairs and changes and will be responsible for implementing continuous improvement projects that reduce operation and maintenance costs. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs any mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic work that is essential to the installation or efficient operation of all plastic injection molding machinery and support equipment. Works closely with molding technicians and participates in team building and problem solving sessions to improve plant performance. Interprets all types of electrical and piping schematics, assembly drawings and bill of materials essential to production equipment. Leads preventative maintenance program for equipment as supported by production demands and scheduling departments. Updates all technical documentation that is required to maintain, rebuild, install or revise any equipment required by the plant. Specification and requisition of components and supplies directly related to job. Utilizes good decision making and time management skills in resolving scheduled and nonscheduled machine and facilities requests. Attends training sessions and seeks out other methods to acquire knowledge about plastics industry and current technology. Communicates with all 3 shifts and utilizes their recommendations and assistance whenever possible in completing repairs. Complies with federal and state Hazardous Waste regulations including proper handling, storing, labeling, and familiarity with Crayola's Emergency Action Plan in the event of a spill or leak. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Minimum five (5) years of technical experience working in the plastic injection molding industry. Associate Degree in a mechanical/electrical field preferred. Must be proficient in at least five (5) of the following skills: industrial rigging, electrical power, hand/machine tools, pipe fitting, metal fabrication, precision measurement and computer operation. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and components such as heater bands, fuses, thermocouples, limit switches, electrical motors and brakes, machine control boards. Ability to troubleshoot and repair fluid power systems and their components such as pumps, valves, cylinders, accumulators, hydraulic motors, hoses, pipes and fittings. Must be able to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems and components such as gear reducers, transmission clutches, grinders, feed screws and tip assemblies, material handling equipment. Must have knowledge of injection molding machine function and process control.
