Job Description:

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair, and upkeep of a wide range of production support and facilities equipment. This is a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and reliability of our manufacturing processes. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician should lead and perform work via Cosmo Core Values C.A.R.E.S. as well as the mission and vision statement.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on various production support and facility equipment, including but not limited to air compressors, fire extinguisher and sprinkler systems, forklifts, lifting equipment, HVAC systems, cardboard balers, trash compactors, conveyors, sorter systems, plastic wrapping machines, cardboard box makers, pallet jacks, dock levelers, and locks.

  • Conduct unscheduled repairs and troubleshooting on machinery and equipment to minimize downtime and maintain optimal production levels.

  • Diagnose mechanical problems using a variety of tools and techniques, including visual inspection, testing equipment, and computerized diagnostic systems.

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on machine controls, including PLC controllers, vacuum systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and electrical systems.

  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and engineers to identify and implement improvements to equipment performance and reliability.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment manuals, and maintenance logs.

  • Follow established safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.

  • Stay up to date with advances in maintenance techniques, technologies, and regulations through continuous learning and professional development.

  • Work closely with production, facilities, and other teams to ensure the seamless integration of maintenance activities.

  • Provide regular status updates and reports on the condition of equipment and any ongoing or upcoming maintenance projects.

  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or maintenance services as required.

    Required Abilities and Skills:

  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician or a similar role.

  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of production support and facilities equipment.

  • Solid understanding of preventive maintenance practices and the ability to perform scheduled maintenance tasks efficiently.

  • Good knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and vendors.

  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and work in various positions, including standing, bending, and kneeling, for extended periods.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.

    Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certifications or vocational training in mechanical maintenance or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift to 60lbs, stand and walk for extended periods of time, work in a noisy and non-climate-controlled environment.

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, twist, move and stage parts to machining areas.
