Systems Engineer Req. # 20839 Company Name TA Category Research and Development Location US-MN-Eden Prairie Type Regular Full-Time Overview Waters Corporation is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our R&D Organization. In this role, the individual will join our TA Instruments ElectroForce group that supports our mechanical testing and fatigue instrument development. Specifically, the individual will be responsible for multiple aspects of systems engineering, including design, prototyping, and testing of new and improved products. The individual will have broad knowledge of a wide variety of engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, software and controls. This role involves applying cross-discipline knowledge to the solve difficult real-world problems. The focus of this role is to develop successful system and subsystem designs, incorporating the core technologies of our business. Additional duties will include performing analysis, conducting experiments, and completing feasibility studies to verify performance and functionality. Typical tasks of the position include, but are not limited to Design and develop systems to meet complex requirements. Evaluate and qualify mechanical, electronic, or electro-mechanical components, materials, assemblies, processes and/or equipment. Troubleshoot product, subsystem, or component problems discovered in manufacturing or by customers in the field and produce design changes to address the problems. Redesign existing products to reduce cost, improve performance, increase manufacturability and reliability using DFM (Design for Manufacture) methodology. Provide technical support to manufacturing, marketing, purchasing and customer assurance for a wide variety of products to ensure conformance to company and customer requirements. May provide mentoring and direction to more junior engineers. Broadly utilize and good understanding of GD&T principles Prepare, follow through with, and present design and drawing reviews Work closely with NPI (New Product Introduction) to support the smooth transition of design into volume manufacturing The successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience that would include the following Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline Experience: Minimum of 2 years industry experience in design and analysis of precision mechanical/electromechanical components/assemblies for volume production Experience with Solidworks preferred. Experience with FEA, ANSYS preferred. Experience with Altium preferred. Experience with MATLAB, Python, C/C++ Skills: Proficiency designing precision mechanical components and assemblies taking into consideration design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost Proficiency conducting Finite Element Analysis (CFD and experience with ANSYS considered a plus) Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, solid and fluid mechanics, and heat transfer and electromechanical controls and their interfaces Knowledge of injection molded plastics design desirable Proven Design of Experiments and root cause analysis Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacture) methodology Experience processing ECO's, practicing organized revision control using a Product Data Management tool (PDM - SAP preferred) Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, peers, suppliers and customers *This position does not have sponsorship available.
