Starting Salary:\$26.67\$29.18(depending on experience)

About this Position

The Fire Protection Specialist provides fire protection services including plan reviews and inspections on all fire alarms, fire suppression, special hazard, and associated systems. In addition, they perform inspections on all fire-resistance-rated construction along with their other fire protection jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a technical review of building construction documents for code compliance for fire protection equipment, site access, and building elements
  • Perform building construction inspections related to fire protection equipment, site access, and building elements
  • Perform residential plan reviews and inspections related to fire-rated assemblies in multi-family units
  • Consult with architects, engineers, developers, and owners on fire code compliance issues
  • Collaborate with the Edmond Fire Department to initiate Fire Prevention Inspection upon Certificate of Occupancy for commercial structures
  • Represent the fire protection discipline in the code update process
  • Participate in the cross-training of other disciplines with the building inspectors
  • Adhere to the City of Edmond\'s Certification Program and complete a minimum of 3 certifications within 2 years

Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge equivalent to a four-year college degree
  • 2 years of related experience and/or training in fire protection systems design and installation, fire inspections, or other fire-related fields
    • Orequivalent combination of education and experience
  • 12 to 18 months of management experience
    • Peopleand/orproject management
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver\'s License and a driving record acceptable to the City\'s insurance carrier

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Fire Protection Technology or Engineering, or comparable experience specifically in the field of fire inspection
  • Certification as a Fire Protection Specialist from NFPA, an International Code Council Fire Inspector 1 & 2, or a Fire Plans Examiner
  • Knowledge of governing industry standards such as NFPA, IBC, IFC, and state (OUBCC) and local ordinances

Necessary Skills

  • Experience using databases
  • Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
  • Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screenings
