About this Position

The Instrumentation Controls Electrical Tech performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace water and wastewater plant controls, instrumentation, electrical equipment, and systems for the Water Treatment Plant and Water Resource Recovery Facility, including related pump stations, storage towers, lift stations, and other departmental equipment.

This position is subject to a rotating, on-call schedule, and incumbents will be required to occasionally work weekends and holidays. During probation, they will work Monday through Friday from 7:00 to 3:00, and after probation, they will work four 10-hour shifts. This position requires incumbents to self-motivate and perform duties skillfully and with minimal direction for all responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and plan corrective, preventative, and emergency repairs for the Water Treatment Plant, Water Resource Recovery Facility, lift stations, and water wells
  • Attend meetings and provide feedback that promotes the City of Edmond\'s sustainability to support capital improvement
  • Maintain and update technical drawings and documentation for electrical and electronic equipment
  • Install, debug, troubleshoot, and calibrate various equipment and sensors (level meters, pressure transmitters, isolation devices, etc.)
  • Reprogram PLCs as necessary due to equipment failures, power losses, or power surges
  • Program, troubleshoot, and conduct repairs on various models of variable frequency drives
  • Program, calibrate, and perform new installations of pump control systems including flow meters, chemical leak detectors, etc.
  • Design, construct, and install special projects related to equipment monitoring and control, area lighting, etc.
  • Research and confirm specifications for all materials used in electronic and electrical systems and applications
  • Communicate with manufacturers, vendors, and technical specialists to resolve any issues
  • Conduct repairs and calibration of process equipment

Qualifications

  • General knowledge equivalent to two years of college

  • 5 years of related experience and/or training

    • Orequivalent combination of education and experience
  • Have or obtain both Water and Wastewater Operator licenses according to the following schedule:

    • A temporary license within ten (10) days
    • A Class \"D\" within one year
    • A Class \"B\" within 3 years
  • Oklahoma Licensed Journeyman Electrician Unlimited (preferred)

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver\'s License and a driving record acceptable to the City\'s insurance carrier

Necessary Skills

  • Ability to effectively work on several projects or issues simultaneously
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery, backhoes, front end loader, and similar machinery
  • Ability and willingness to perform standby duties and work hours more than a normal work schedule
    • Including occasional work on weekends and holidays
  • Availability for call-back during off-duty hours
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally or overnight as required
  • Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
  • Ability to pass extensive b ckground process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screenings
