Applied Research Associates, Inc. Civil Engineer for EFL FOTSC Support in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey

ARA is seeking to hire a full-time Civil Engineer to work for our Mid-Atlantic Division (MAD). The selected candidate will work at the Federal Highway Administration’s Central Federal Lands office, located at 12300 W. Dakota Avenue, Lakewood, CO 80228. The employee may be allowed to telework up to two days a week following Client Policy for Government employees, and upon Program Manager approval. Travel up to eight times per year is anticipated.

The Field Operations Technical Support Center (FOTSC) operates and maintains 125 continuous traffic count stations located in 40 National Parks in 27 states. ARA is seeking a qualified Traffic Engineer to support the FOTSC office in Lakewood, CO in their data collection, review, managing and reporting efforts.

What you will do as a Civil Engineer for EFL FOTSC:

The successful candidate shall possess the following qualifications:

  • Civil Engineer or related field (statistician, planner, etc.) with a minimum of two years’ experience.

  • Successful completion of an engineering degree or related field (as described above), at an accredited university or college.

  • Experience with traffic monitoring practices, database operation, creating monthly and seasonal factors and applying the factors to coverage counts quality control.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

  • Field work in parks may require hiking up to 0.5 miles in rugged terrain.

Experience with the following is preferred but not required:

  • Managing/improving traffic data collection programs.

  • Identifying locations of new traffic count locations.

  • Creating/updating traffic data collection stations in a database.

  • Assisting with the oversite of data collection Contractor(s) during data collection efforts.

  • Conducting QA/QC on traffic count data.

  • Creating monthly and seasonal factors based on permanent traffic count stations.

  • Applying monthly factors to traffic count data.

  • Assisting in the creation of various traffic data summary reports.

  • Giving oral presentations.

  • Reviewing inspection reports created by others.

  • Conducting field work, inspecting/repairing existing count stations based on applicable specifications and creating inspection reports.

Security:

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check prior to initiating work. Full details on FHWA security procedures will be provided upon employment. A background check of the successful candidate will be performed since they will be required to drive Federal government vehicles.

Salary:

This position provides a salary of $35.22 - $58.70 per hour contingent upon previous work experience.
