Air Force Materiel Command COMPUTER SCIENTIST in Eglin AFB, Florida

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as senior computer scientist in the evaluation and implementation of computer programs to support cross functional projects that improve overall mission effectiveness. To manage the conduct of studies to determine the most efficient and cost effective means of accomplishing the mission. Responsibilities Serves as senior level computer scientist, responsible for evaluating computer programs necessary to support the organization. Studies the structure and/or functions of organizations with extremely interrelated work processes and functions and accurately advises or proposes solutions to improve processes, nod maximize mission accomplishment and resources utilization. Provides technical guidance, advisory support, and assistance, Performs studies/evaluations on an individual basis or as in team member responsible for completing overall work effort. Attends meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to program planning, advanced technologies, and support system concepts. Accomplishes professional development and maintains technical proficiency through professional interaction with technical and professional societies, associations, academia, symposia, contractors, research and development (R&D) organizations, by reading/reviewing technical journals and current literature, and participation in formal training programs. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience serving as senior computer scientist in the evaluation and implementation of computer programs to support cross functional projects that improve overall mission effectiveness. Manage the conduct of studies to determine the most efficient and cost effective means of accomplishing the mission of the organization. Analyzes and translates technical specifications into integrated applications that automate business processes, reduce cost, and Improve quality of work products. Work as a team led or team member on specific process improvement/reengineering and information technology projects. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: I. Professional knowledge of computer science principles, concepts and practices applicable to a wide range of duties associated with informational systems software design and development activities. Requires a four year degree in computer science or related field. 2. Ability to modify standard practices and adapt technique,; to solve a wide variety of interrelated problems to adapt precedents and make departures from previous approaches to similar projects in order to provide for specialized requirements. 3. Knowledge and skill to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, devise solutions to problems, and identify changes and trends. 4. Skill in applying analytical and evaluate techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness of program operations. 5. Ability to participate in study teams; originate new Ideas, projects, and methodologies; and execute projects and/or studies within established time constraints. 6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiates complex Issues; and maintains good working relations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
