Position Description:
As part of an ambulatory care team, provide patient care and administrative clinical support while ensuring efficient and effective operational flow. Partner with physicians and licensed providers for the delivery of healthcare services.

Major/Essential Functions:
Records height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and pain assessment
Assists physician while patient is being examined
Assists physician with minor surgery
Performs simple laboratory tests, first aid procedures and administers injections.
Records medical history, data on physicals, surgery referrals, and other facts as indicated.
Gives instructions to patients on diet, medication or special procedures as indicated by physician
Schedules appointments to specialists, ancillary services, organizations or hospitals if indicated and obtains
Collect blood samples in appropriate containers after positive patient identification and properly labels specimen(s).
Completes patient requisition.
Verifies identity of samples with orders and processes laboratory specimen as indicated.
Obtain medication pre-authorization and consults with provider for any changes.
Routes specimens to appropriate test site
Ensures that exam rooms are clean and stocked; maintains daily inventory and orders supplies.
Prepares instruments and equipment to sterilize.
Documents all in-house testing and procedures in EMR and in department log books.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor within the policies of the department, and TTUHSC in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department
Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures and processes

Preferred Qualifications:
One year of clinical experience in an ambulatory clinical practice setting
Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems
A basic knowledge of medical terminology
Familiarity with Joint Commission and its standards
Experience with medical supply inventory and restocking
Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Required Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED Equivalent
Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES Medical Assisting Program
Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary setting; excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
Current Medical Assistant Certification required
