U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command Testing Clerk in El Segundo, California

Summary About the Position: This position is located in El Segundo, CA at the Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS). This position playes a vital role in maintaining the nation's military by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard; meets the high mental, physical, academic and moral standards required by the Department of Defense and each military Service. This is a Term NTE 2 Years position with provisions to be made permanent. Responsibilities Cross-trains in other functions of the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) (such as processing) and performs these functions as required. Handles accountable test material. Brief applicants, distributes and proctors examinations and scores exams. Prepares test sessions at remote sites, to include schools with large populations. Performs quality control of examination and applicable applicant information, sends results to appropriate personnel, and performs data entry of results and information into the appropriate accession reporting system. Tests include the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) - ASVAB, and computer and paper and pencil special purpose tests. Assist in conducting test material inventories as required and ensures strict accountability and security of all testing materials. Operate a variety of office automation equipment including personal computers, mobile computing devises, facsimile machines, scanners, digital copiers, and industrial shredders. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications If you are a current Army or DoD employee, this position will be filled from employees eligible for temporary promotion, temporary reassignment, or temporary change to lower grade. This position is term not-to-exceed 13 months. The position may be extended up to the maximum time of 5 years. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Assisting in conducting and proctoring examinations for applicants at a testing site; Briefing applicants on examination procedures/directions to ensure understanding; Conducting scoring of examinations and compiling test results and information into a centralized reporting system; Safe guarding testing materials to ensure no loss or compromise of testing materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer Skills Education and Training Integrity/Honesty Oral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
