Job Title: Controls Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Controls Technician to join our team for the 2nd and 3rd shifts. In this role, you will be responsible for reading ladder logic, troubleshooting, editing, writing, and programming PLCs, specifically Allen Bradley and Siemens. You will work with a variety of equipment, including band saws, cut-off saws, horizontal contour cutters, laser cutters, up to 20-ton presses, slitters, 400HP grinders, glue machines, rollers, conveyors, ABB/Fanuc/Motoman Robots, hydraulics, pneumatics, up to 400 HP motors, bearings, fans, breakers, fuses, sensors, and more. A strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, use a volt meter, and knowledge in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is essential. Experience with AutoCAD is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow ladder logic, check inputs/outputs, toggle controllers, swap drives, prox switches, relays, photo eyes.

  • Write, program, edit, and troubleshoot Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs.

  • Perform electrical troubleshooting up to 480v 3-phase.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

  • Install and troubleshoot machinery electrically as needed.

  • Use a volt meter and be knowledgeable in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

  • Utilize a tablet to log jobs, including work orders, repairs, and preventive maintenance.

  • Use AutoCAD to add, change, and update prints in both physical and electronic formats.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and follow ladder logic.

  • Proficiency in PLC programming, editing, and troubleshooting for Allen Bradley and Siemens systems.

  • 4+ years of industrial electric experience up to 480v 3-phase.

  • Experience with LOTO procedures, new machine installation, troubleshooting, and repairs.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

  • Possess basic hand tools and tool box (power and specialty tools provided).

  • Proficiency in using a tablet and laptop for logging jobs and PLC work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in programming and troubleshooting ABB, Motoman, and Fanuc robots.

  • 3+ years of PLC programming experience with both Allen Bradley and Siemens.

  • Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD.

Work Environment

The work environment is clean, organized, and bright, with machinery, piping, and ceilings painted white. There is a small area with a chemical smell where ingredients for foam are mixed. The facility operates on the 2nd shift from 2pm to 10:30pm, and the 3rd shift from 10pm to 6:30am. Offshift employees receive a $2/hour shift premium.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elkhart, Indiana.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $39.00
