The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322. 29. The NG-MIP program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service , for up to 180 days . The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels.  SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as Active-duty service members .

Responsibilities for this internship position are:

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC) has developed the Northrop Grumman – Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) utilizing the DoDI guidance for Skillbridge. During this program the service member will be on-site at his or her host company performing an individual internship in an entry to mid-level career type role. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.

Goals – Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for high-speed, motivated military candidates into NGC.

Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization and are prepared to meet the NG mission “Defining Possible” on Day 1. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:

 - Has served at least 180 days on active duty

 - Is within 12 months of separation or retirement

 - Will receive an honorable discharge

 - Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS

 - Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

 - Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship

Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is looking for a Manager Programs Level 2 to support the Propulsion Systems & Controls (PS&C) operating unit. The position will be located in Elkton, MD.

The Manager Program 2 will be responsible for overseeing a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing the production capacity of a current design. This program will necessitate close collaboration with Supply Chain Management for the procurement of equipment, Operations teams to facilitate equipment installation and Tooling Engineering to develop and deploy of production tooling. Key responsibilities will encompass ensuring that all contractual obligations are met within budget and on time, fulfilling all technical specifications, and fostering strong relationships with customers to support strategies and actions that drive value creation.

Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Discover charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award winning restaurants, and inns. You can hike, bike, camp, bird watch, ride horseback, or drop a fishing line. Five rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the C&D Canal can be explored by boat or by land. Responsibilities:

  • Supervises/manages staff assigned/matrixed to the program

  • Provides objective-oriented direction utilizing management guidelines & general policies

  • Plans and assesses program performance addressing cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality of a work package, subsystem, or related group of work packages on a large system development-type contract or full responsibility for all aspects of program performance on a large delivery order or mid-size contract

  • Oversees projects and task assigned to the organizational group performed by non-exempt and/or exempt employees. Becomes directly involved only when required to assist in meeting schedules or to resolve technical or operational problems

  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget

  • Accomplishes results through lower-level subordinates or through experienced exempt employees who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments

  • Functions as an advisor regarding tasks, projects, and operations. Becomes actively involved in daily operations only when required to meet schedules or to resolve complex problems

  • Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning specific phases of projects or contracts

  • Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal external representatives concerning specifics operations

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position emphasizes skills and experience. Will consider one of following: High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of related experience supporting U.S. Government contracts and customers and/or project management in other industries, Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years, or Master’s and 7 years’ experience supporting U.S. Government contracts and customers and/or project management in other industries

  • 5 or more years of experience leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either project lead, integrated program team or cost account manager

  • 5 or more years of demonstrated success leading teams/and or organizations to achieve a common goal

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Interim DoD Secret security clearance

  • Meets DoD SkillBridge qualifications as per DODI 1322.2

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical background and/or experience in development of propulsion systems

  • Experience with Production Manufacturing Programs

  • PMP certification

  • DoD Active Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $145,000 - $217,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
