Summary:
Functions as a critical member of the medical office team working toward the goals of the practice with a focus on providing optimum service to all patients. Partnering with the providers you will coordinate patient flow, obtain temperature, pulse, blood pressure, weight, and administer care to patient. You will be responsible for maintaining patient charts and other medical records, developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with patients and families, keeping patient information confidential and respecting patient's right to privacy
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities: • Completes a medical history from the patient/family in accordance with practice requirements. • Accurately takes and records vital signs in a timely fashion. • Recognizes and responds to emergencies appropriately under guidance of RN and/or Provider • Prepares patient for examination appropriately. • Performs EKGs as ordered. • Maintains accurate medication and immunization records on new and established patients. • Demonstrates the ability to listen, comprehend, and communicate patient's needs. • Proactively provides/promotes a safe patient environment and reports problems to physician or nurse. • Answers telephone promptly stating name and department. • Participates in quality improvement activities • Records patient data to identify each patient's age specific needs. • Collaborates with practitioners, nursing, and manager to meet the needs of the constant patient flow. • Collects, reviews, and communicates pertinent patient information for next day's schedule. • Performs equipment checks as needed by practice policy. • Oversees the cleaning, sterilization and maintenance of needed supplies and equipment. • Identifies learning needs and seeks appropriate training. • Handles patient assignment. • Reports family concerns/complaints through chain of command. • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. • Assists practitioners with patient examinations, as directed. • Implements practitioner orders for the delivery of care in a timely, coordinated manner. (IF APPLICABLE, SEE CERT) • Telephones, faxes or electronically sends prescriptions to pharmacy with written order of physician. • Shows motivation and initiative by completing tasks without prompting
Other Information:
Must be enrolled in a Medical Assistant training program or have completed the coursework, and;
- Must be eligible to obtain CCMA certification within 18 months of hire
