Licensed Practical Nurse Summary of Need:
This position involves the routine care of patients in accordance with detailed and well-defined rules and regulations. Performs routine sub-professional nursing services in the care of sub-acute, convalescent, and chronic patients and assists a registered professional nurse in the case of acutely ill patients; does related work as required. In addition, a licensed practical nurse assists a registered professional nurse in the carrying out of orders prescribed by a physician. The work requires understanding of a skill in routine nursing practices but does not require the exercise of professional judgment. Assignments concerning patient care are given specifically and supervised closely by a registered professional nurse or a physician.

Typical job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Bathes patients and gives personal hygienic care.
  • Makes beds and performs other tasks designed to provide a suitable environment for patients.
  • Cares for equipment used in care of patients as directed.
  • Assists in the admission and discharge of patients.
  • Takes the temperature, notes the rate of pulse/respiration, observes and records other signs and symptoms as directed.
  • Collects specimens and assists in carrying out diagnostic procedures under supervision.
  • Carries out uncomplicated therapeutic treatments such as giving enemas, preparing and applying simple dressings and administering certain medications upon specific instructions of the physician or a registered professional nurse.
Full performance knowledge, Skills Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of nursing techniques and their relation to medical and surgical practices.
  • Working knowledge of hospital sanitation and hygiene.
  • Ability to apply therapeutic treatments as prescribed.
  • Ability to understand and carry out exact detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to keep records and make reports.
  • Ability to get along_ well with patients and others; good moral character; excellent physical and mental health.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of a course of study in practical nursing approved by the State Education Department of New York State.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
  • 1 year of current experience.
Current Openings:
  • 1 evenings (3pm to 11pm)
Contract Length: 13 weeks, plus extensions available.
