Organization Profile: Hawthorne Foundation Inc. serves children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Our educational, vocational and life skills programs are only a few of the programs available. We also offer parent training, recreational activities and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities:

Programming Develops a physical education program curriculum for the school age population (elementary/middle/high). Develops weekly and daily programs with educational personnel to establish and attain goals for each individual student (i.e. weekly lesson plans). Conducts a daily program in physical education for the school age population, and documents daily progress. Promotes and attends Special Olympic Training Programs/Community programs for the benefit of the students and the community. Assists in the establishment of intramurals and/or interscholastic sports programs for all students. Provides supplemental trainings in accordance with IDEA. Requirements & Qualifications: Baccalaureate Degree physical education New York State Teaching Certificate-Physical Education An ability or some experience in the development of appropriate physical education and recreation programs for the mentally disabled. Sensitivity to the needs of the students An ability to supervise and train staff in physical education and recreation techniques as they relate to special education.
