Description Acara Solutions, one of the country's largest aerospace staffing services firms, is helping our national aerospace manufacturing client find a Mechanical Engineer to join their Elyria, OH plant (near Cleveland). This is a salaried direct employee position with a target salary of $110K - $125K. This plant is a traditional aerospace metal 'machine shop'. This is a hybrid schedule after fully up-to-speed (3 days onsite, 2 offsite). This is a 10-person mechanical engineering team. -Product is positive displacement pumps but might also help out with centrifugal pumps -Product architecture / configuration, Performance (mechanical, electro/mechanical) Modeling, Analysis, Weight, Reliability, Materials, Safety -Create, review and/or approve product drawings, drawing release packages, drawing revisions and other design documentation in concurrence with company procedures. Within the positive displacement pump product line, reports to the Engineering Manager for Positive Displacement Pumps Responsible for the development and testing of positive displacement pumps for aerospace applications, including: Performing engineering calculations: materials (selection, properties, etc), mechanical (stress, torque, power, motion, etc), fluid (flow, pressure drop, hydraulic power, etc), and thermal (heat transfer, temperature predictions, etc) primarily. May include some electrical calculations (electrical power, motor efficiency, contact resistance / grounding, etc) if required by product features but less frequently. Perform supporting analyses as needed: Reliability, Maintainability, Safety, etc Create / review component & assembly drawings, drawing packages, and maintain configuration control of documents Act as technical lead for new product development programs. Work closely with customer engineers to ensure successful integration of our products into customer systems. Provide direction, oversight, and technical review of junior engineers on product development team. Coordinate with manufacturing engineering, operations, supply chain etc to achieve program cost and schedule targets Author product test plans and test procedures. Work with test department to execute test programs and gather required data. Analyze test data and draw conclusions about product operation and requirement compliance. Author and review test reports. Lead research and development programs to advance the state of product technology and design tools Lead proposal efforts to create concept designs for new applications. Coordinate with program management to define cost targets Provide engineering support for new production and fielded product, including leading product investigations as needed Specific skills / knowledge / background: Strong mechanical aptitude / mechanical engineering fundamentals required. Stress, strain, fluids / hydraulics, stack-ups. Critical thinking and project leadership capability required. Demonstrated project leadership is preferred. Job Requirements Required Skills / Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Min 5 years of mechanical engineering experience, including: Basic solid modeling proficiency required. Experience with specific software not required (they use Creo). More advanced solid modeling capabilities are nice to have but not required GD&T and stack ups knowledge Min 2 years of experience with at least 2 of the following: hydraulic systems, cooling systems, pumps / plumbing / piping systems. Min 2 years of project leadership experience Knowledge of Stress Analysis This is an ITAR aerospace plant, U.S. Persons required (Green Card ok) Preferred Skills / Qualifications: CREO Experience with fluid systems, rotating machinery, and/or aerospace fields preferred Experience with FEA preferred, they use ANSYS.
