Interior Weatherization, Inc. Weatherization Technician in Fairbanks, Alaska

Position Purpose: Under general supervision, perform tasks to complete energy, structural, and health/safety upgrades to residential dwellings. Complete tasks as assigned by the Project Coordinator and/or Lead Technician.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

  • Crawlspaces: vapor barriers, insulation, skirting, hatches, plumbing
  • Ceilings/ Attics: air seal, insulate, accesses, vents, sheetrock, light fixtures, electrical boxes, through-roof stacks
  • Roof: dampers, flashing
  • Floors: insulation
  • Walls: insulation, vapor barriers, air seal, wall surfaces
  • Ventilation: ducting, fans, range hoods, vents, switches, thermal boundaries
  • Health and Safety: smoke alarms, CO detectors, fire extinguishers
  • Pressure Relief: doors, pass-through grills, supply vents, p-traps
  • Heating: woodstoves, chimneys, duct runs, above-ground fuel tanks
  • Doors/Windows: doors, locksets, windows, glass units, striker plates, weather stripping/sweeps
  • Misc: pipe/water heater wrap and temp sets, thermostats, showerheads, lights, car timers
  • Clean-up: Lead-safe work practices, material clean up and disposal
  • Travel: limited/required for completing out of town work and training
  • Work Environment: team effort, safety conscious, PPE protected at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Experience: 1-2 years of verifiable general residential carpentry/construction knowledge,experience, and skills

Required Knowledge: Construction knowledge in cold climates of residential dwellings, preferred Broad knowledge of energy conservation and residential energy upgrades

Education: High school graduate or equivalent, and/or trade school related to residential construction, energy upgrades

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to provide own carpentry tools
  • Attentive to accuracy and detail
  • Cooperative and willing to assist others
  • Ability to wear respirator (including clean shaven) and other PPE apparel Ability to work for extended periods in attics, crawlspaces and confinedspaces
  • Ability to lift heavy loads (70 pounds)
  • Ability to manually dig trenches
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
  • Ability to work in harsh environments (cold, dirty, hot, dusty, etc ... ) Ability to relate to low-income, disabled or senior clients
  • Ability to work within a drug and alcohol free work place
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Insurable under IWI insurance

Work Conditions: Work is performed in office and home setting. Work may be performed outdoors in all weather conditions, typically in an environment similar to a construction site. Frequently work in confined spaces, such as beneath floors, in attics and confined crawl spaces. May require working on rooftops and other potential hazardous areas, such as around electrical wiring. May be exposed to dusty, wet, muddy, poorly ventilated and occasionally unsanitary environments where PPE apparel is required. Requires occasional overnight stays and driving in adverse weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to outside seasonal weather conditions, dust and/or loud noises such as sirens and traffic congestion.
