Associate Director of Student Transitions – Undergraduate Student Life

The Office of Student Engagement works to create a student-focused and student-driven campus community that empowers students to take ownership of their student experience, and encourages them to get involved on campus and in the larger Fairfield community. Through cross-campus collaborations, Student Engagement connects students to curricular and co- curricular experiences that encourage personal and professional development, skill and capacity building, problem solving, and valuing differences. In our Jesuit tradition, we focus on the development of the whole person and value and respect the individual contributions each person brings to our community.

Purpose: The Associate Director of Student Transitions oversees the growth and development of the area of Undergraduate Student Life within the Office of Student Engagement. The Undergraduate Student Life area oversees student governance, student organizations, late night and weekend programming, signature campus events, senior year experience, leadership development, civic learning & democratic engagement, Anthology Engage platform, and university event marketing and coordination. This includes, but is not limited to, advising key aspects of the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA), ensuring a robust late night and weekend programming schedule is planned through various mechanisms, assisting with the marketing and promotions of student events, coordinating major campus events such as Fall Welcome, Alumni & Family Weekend, Clam Jam, Senior Week, and supporting the planning of other signature events such as the Fall & Spring Activities Fairs, Presidential Ball, Siblings Weekend, Winter Fest and Spring Fest, overseeing a robust leadership development line-up that includes Exploring Leadership, CliftonStrengths Boot Camp, Annual Student Leadership Conference, and Annual Student Leadership Recognition Ceremony. This position reports to the Director and supervises two full-time Assistant Directors.

Essential Functions:

Oversee the management of Undergraduate Student Life:

  • Co-develop the strategic direction of Undergraduate Student Life (UGSL) within the Office of Student Engagement.

  • Organize and administer campus-wide co-curriculum events, including the forecasting, planning, development, promotion, and evaluation of programs.

  • Assess offerings, programs, and initiatives within the Undergraduate Student Life area.

  • Provide direct supervision to the full-time Assistant Director of Leadership & Student Advocacy, who advises the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA) Government Boards (Student Senate and Court) and FUSA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Board, supervises the Fairfield at Night (F@N) substance-free programming board, develops leadership development initiatives such as CliftonStrengths trainings and code management, and the curriculum design for Exploring Leadership program & the Club Development workshop series, and oversees the civic engagement initiatives and programs.

  • Provide direct supervision of the full-time Assistant Director of Student Organizations and Programming, who advises the FUSA Club Operations & Student Organizations Board, FUSA Programming Board, and FUSA Treasury Board, club finances, club recognition, and FUSA’s MainSTAGe Concert.

Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution for large scale, signature University events coming out of the Office of Student Engagement:

  • Plan and execute Fall Welcome, Alumni & Family Weekend, Winter Fest, Clam Jam, and Senior Week respectively with coordination of University departments, faculty, staff, and Town of Fairfield

  • Communicate effectively with campus partners, outside entities, and vendors to ensure smooth execution of signature University and student events.

Serve on a team of advisors to the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA):

  • Advise the FUSA President and Vice President, the FUSA Executive Cabinet, the FUSA Marketing & Public Relations Board, and the FUSA Health & Wellness Board.

  • Connect one-on-one with board/branch officers.

  • Support the overall training and development of FUSA officers by working closely with FUSA leadership.

Plan and implement the Senior Year Experience:

  • Supervise and support the Senior Year Experience Committee in the implementation of Senior Year programs throughout the year, such as financial planning, apartment hunting, senior nights, and fundraising.

  • Supervise and support student leaders in the implementation, marketing, and facilitation of Senior Week programs consisting of 7 events over 6 days for the graduating class both on and off campus.

  • Manage $300,000 Senior Week budget, as it is funded exclusively by Senior Week ticket sales.

  • Provide leadership and collaboration with departments such as Academic Affairs, Young Alumni, Senior Gift, and Conference and Event Management to connect on the scheduling of Commencement Week events.

  • Direct and supervise the development and production of informational materials (mailings, website, University Ticketing site).

Oversee and manage the Anthology Engage platform for the office and University

  • Includes offering trainings for campus partners and responding to inquiries from students/faculty/staff

  • Work with ITS to ensure user data is uploaded regularly and accurately.

  • Support campus partners with the management of Paths, the onboarding of new portals, and troubleshooting with Anthology in case of technical issues.

Coordinate and collaborate with other departments and offices to support student engagement opportunities across campus which includes the marketing and promotions of these events:

  • Develop and maintain promotional materials through various media, including photography, social media and traditional promotions to support all involvement areas connected with FUSA, student organizations, and overall student engagement.

  • Continuously assess student needs by evaluating program effectiveness and success.

  • Establish policies and implement best practices as it relates to student programs.

  • Work in collaboration with the Student Affairs Marketing Liaison on all marketing endeavors.

Assist the Director in the growth and development of the Office of Student Engagement:

  • Prepare documentation including annual reports, assessment projects, and other materials as required.

  • Create opportunities for on-going professional development.

  • Uphold the mission and identity of the University and its promotion of social justice.

  • Assist with June Orientation, Fall Move-In, and Fairfield in Focus Days.

  • Co-Facilitate one or more First Year Experience (FYE) seminars for First Year and Transfer Students.

  • Assist with late night and weekend programming.

  • Provide operational support to the department.

  • Serve as a responsible committee representative as requested.

  • Attend departmental meetings and inform staff regarding relevant information.

  • Promote an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and ensure that it is consistent with the Office of Student Engagement’s mission.

  • Remain cognizant of the University's mission and identity, the constant promotion of social justice, and importance of student voice.

  • Provide operational support to the department, through trainings on WorkDay, Engage, Paciolan.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent departmental and/or University matters.

  • Provide coverage at designated events as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned that are within the best interest of the department.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree required, 4 to 6 years of Full Time experience in the field. Applicants should have some background or interest in student affairs administration/college student personnel, psychology, education, or related areas. Demonstrated experience and interest in event planning, advising student leaders, developing leadership development initiatives, assessing program development, and supervision or related experiences are required. Additionally, applicants with strong understanding of Anthology Engage, student governance, managing clubs and student organization processes, strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and proven experience working with a diverse student population and professionals are desired.
