Fairfield University Associate Director, Social Media Marketing and Strategy in Fairfield, Connecticut

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced social media professional to refine, oversee, and execute the social media strategy and daily content management for Fairfield University’s main brand, academic, alumni, and retail profiles across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn. This role calls for a dynamic leader with a strong grasp of social media trends, the ability to drive engagement and brand awareness, and the skills to influence stakeholders across departments using data-driven insights and best practices. Candidates must be deadline-oriented, able to quickly adapt to changing priorities, and proficient in managing a team to achieve strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Strategy & Execution: Lead the strategy and content management for nearly 30 social media accounts, including the University’s main brand, academic, alumni, and retail profiles across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn

  • Team Leadership & Collaboration: Manage a team of six direct reports/interns, and keep all internal projects moving on time. Lead cross-functional collaboration with creatives (photo, video, design, print) and external vendors to execute integrated social media campaigns.

  • Content Creation & Publishing: Oversee the development and weekly scheduling across all channels

  • Community Management: Maintain daily maintenance in comments and direct messages across entire social media profile

  • Campaigns & Interactive Experiences: Spearhead giveaways, “surprise and delight” campaigns, and interactive social media experiences during key events to drive excitement and engagement among our community.

  • User-Generated Content & Community Engagement: Strategically incorporate user-generated content to amplify student voices and enhance the authenticity of our messaging. Build relationships with students and alumni to encourage organic content creation and sharing. Regularly maintain student takeover schedules to ensure constant flow of user-generated content.

  • Performance Analytics & Optimization: Monitor and analyze social media performance metrics monthly, quarterly, and YOY to improve content strategies and optimize audience engagement and reach.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field

● 5-6 years of experience in social media management; agency experience is a plus

● Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a team

● Expertise in social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn) and best practices for engagement and content creation

● Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret metrics and adjust strategies for optimal performance

● Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and build internal relationships

Preferred:

● Experience with social media tools such as Sprout Social or similar platforms

● Knowledge of content creation, including photography, video production, and design
