Job Description:

Fairfield University seeks to fill the role of Success Coach for Graduate Online Programs. The person to fill this role will apply knowledge of best practices in guiding and mentoring adult online learners. They will have a demonstrated ability to work independently and self-manage their student caseload. The incumbent must have advanced communication and project management skills because of the nature of the role.

In the true spirit of our Jesuit Tradition & Values, Cura Personalis or care of the whole person, the role of the Success Coach is to act as a resource to all online, remote, low-residency and hybrid graduate students. This position will report to the Vice President of Innovation & Online Learning and will work to expand student retention and online engagement.

  • 40% – Coaching & Mentoring: Monitor assigned students in over 10 graduate level programs with onboarding, orientation, interventions, and academic performance alongside university partners. Provide individualized support for newly admitted students. Integrate best practices and strategies dealing with adult mentoring and appreciative advising techniques to carry out proactive, one-on-one student conversations that acknowledge the unique needs of online learners. Facilitate communications to assigned individuals and respond to questions from our resource accounts promptly. Organize tri-annual meetings with Program Directors to go over work-flow improvements. Meet with new Online Faculty to go over services available to students from the Department of Online Learning.

  • 25% – Support student success using online systems: Use a variety of technologies (such as Banner, Anthology, Slate, Teams, and Blackboard) to create meaningful interactions and support for students. Develop internal retention reporting methods and support faculty enquiries to identify and outreach towards at-risk students. Determine risk factors, monitor student progress, and provide proactive referrals.

  • 25% – Programming and Advocacy: In support of expanding and easing access for online students, work to improve programs and develop initiatives that encourage Graduate Online student engagement with academic support resources and student development opportunities. Work with internal / cross-campus colleagues, including advisors and department contacts, to implement programmatic interventions to aid retention of online students.

  • 10% – Campus Collaboration and Professional Development: Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with colleagues, program directors, staff, and faculty to support student success. Develop and maintain involvement with appropriate professional organizations for on-going growth opportunities and in support of advancing the work of online learning/mentoring.

  • 5% – Other: Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team or direct superior.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning

  • Familiarity with current trends and developments in higher education

  • Experience working with university student support services

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in Student Advising, preferably through a university advising center

  • Experience in Online Education, Learning Design and/or Graduate Student Life
