Job Description:

The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2024. This is a non-tenure track position.

The position is for instruction in our General Chemistry for the Health Sciences curriculum, a required one-semester lecture course and a required one-semester laboratory course for all nursing students as well as many pre-health students. The teaching load will be three undergraduate General Chemistry for the Health Sciences lecture sections and one undergraduate General Chemistry for the Health Sciences laboratory sections each semester. The lecture and laboratory materials for these courses are coordinated to complement each other. The candidate will have the option to make a contribution to university service opportunities.

Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have completed a M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry or an allied field, or should expect to receive their degree by summer 2024. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate lecture and laboratory teaching, and should have undergraduate lecture and laboratory teaching experience, preferably in General Chemistry for the Health Sciences or in a similar course. Candidates should have good communication skills and experience using classroom/laboratory technology. Additionally, a commitment to pedagogical innovation and demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom and laboratory is required.

Additional Information:

The Department consists of eleven full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Department has high quality NSF-funded instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer and a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer. Our Department offers ACS-accredited B.S. degrees in Chemistry and in Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, including departmental events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences.
