City of Fairhope Gas Service Line Technician in Fairhope, Alabama

Under the supervision of the Gas Crew Leader, this employee performs cathodic protection procedures, underground valve maintenance, high pressure station design and maintenance, setting commercial meters, farm tap maintenance, odorization (maintaining odorizer equipment) and line patrol for new construction projects on highways and high-pressure lines. This employee installs and maintains gas service lines, locates, and repairs gas line leaks and performs welding tasks associated with gas line installation and maintenance. The employee operates heavy equipment associated with gas line installation and maintenance. This employee responds to emergency or hazardous situations such as blowing gas lines and leaks when required. Major responsibilities for this job are underground valve maintenance, commercial meter sets, cathodic protection procedures (monitor and maintain readings and rectifiers; gas analyzer readings), high pressure station design and maintenance, monitor and maintain commercial meter settings (rotary and turbine meters) and line patrol. This job is considered safety-sensitive is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in municipal gas system operations.
  3. Possess a current and valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or be able to obtain this license within six (6) months of employment; must be insurable.
  4. Ability to travel to attend professional development workshops or training programs.
  5. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.
