SAFETY COORDINATOR CITY OF FAIRHOPE $50,000 - $73,000 PER YEAR DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED: 08.31.2024 - 09.26.2024


Under limited supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the SAFETY COORDINATOR is responsible for proactively coordinating and performing safety-related field and office work for all departments for the City of Fairhope. The employee develops, implements, and evaluates safety programs, conducts safety inspections, provides safety training, conducts safety investigations, and promotes safety awareness. Work requires extensive contact with internal and external customers. The employee also develops and monitors comprehensive environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs for the City using industry safety standards and best practices. The employee exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in identifying current and potential safety hazards and deficiencies and making recommendations for corrective action. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Possess a bachelors degree in occupational health and safety, safety management, human resources management, risk management or related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of practical work experience in safety and risk management; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job.
  3. Possess a current and valid drivers license; must be insurable.
  4. Possess or ability to obtain and maintain Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation within a prescribed period of time after hire.
  5. May be required to obtain commercial drivers license (CDL)
  6. Must be able to take phone calls and respond to requests after-hours as needed
    1. This requirement is due to some City operations providing 24/7 public services, therefore the risk for incidents and accidents 24/7.
