About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

The Power Network Analysis (PNA) Supervisor works within the Transmission Operations Services (TOS) group and supervises the PNA group that supports the 24/7/365 operations of FirstEnergy’s three Transmission System Control Centers (SCCs) in Akron, OH and Fairmont, WV. The PNA Supervisor’s primary focus is to provide leadership support to a dedicated team responsible for the oversight of FE’s transmission grid through monitoring, optimization, and control. PNA provides monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of the Energy Management System (EMS) Network applications for SCC end-users. The PNA team is dynamic and executes a wide diversity of work over a spectrum of scopes. Candidates filling this position will support a variety of initiatives and perform interactions with peers and leadership.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing support to team members for maintaining, enhancing, and accurately resolving real-time issues of the network applications within the real-time Energy Management System (EMS).

  • Responsible for ensuring that SCADA equipment capabilities and ICCP telemetry are reviewed and current.

  • Collaborate with team members to enable peers conducting studies relating to the operation of FE Transmission with success

  • Coordinate the seasonal assessment studies and network model comparisons with Transmission Planning and Protection and the SCCs.

  • Support the responsibility for communications and coordination of data exchanges and signoffs for new equipment energizations such as limit updates and topology changes including supporting external personnel to coordinate joint Network model updates.

  • Serve as the support groups subject matter expert to support ongoing readiness for compliance and audit activities. Including and not limited to reviewing situational data, supporting the acquisition of data, and serving as a liaison between TOS and regulators.

  • Coordinate the support of real-time Operations during off-hours as part of callout rotation for team members.

  • Coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the PNA group within Transmission Operations.

  • Making decisions guided by policies, procedures, and business plan.

  • Maintaining a high level of safety commitment throughout day-to-day functions.

  • Driving continuous improvement across the business unit and FirstEnergy.

  • Understanding and working within departmental budget.

  • Develop team reports for department leadership to highlight group priorities progress and successes.

  • Being accountable for the performance of the PNA team.

  • Setting priorities for the team to ensure task completion, coordinating work activities with other supervisors and/or managers.

  • Executing the performance management process by providing feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis by discussing development opportunities, performance issues, and changes that are occurring.

  • Leading, educating, and directing others to improve team effectiveness and communicate results/recommendations.

  • Working effectively with different parts of the organization; broaden, deepen, and maintain relationships.

  • Ensuring business continuity through good succession planning processes.

  • Travel as required.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. (3) Bachelors of Science degree in other Engineering disciplines from an ABET accredited institution will be considered.

  • Minimum of 7 (seven) years of Engineering experience is required.

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • Highly driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic leader capable of communicating, motivating, and driving workforces toward positive change and improvement.

  • Exceptional relationship management, leadership, teamwork, and managerial skills.

  • Strong written / oral communication skills to make clear, accurate, and concise reports to all audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to lead others in achieving goals for the benefit of the business unit and FirstEnergy.

  • Ability to make accurate decisions and demonstrate sound judgment.

  • Knowledge of the electric transmission system, reliability standards and regional transmission organizations is beneficial.

  • Knowledge of NERC and RFC standards and policies of the electric utility industry is preferred.

  • Familiarity with any or all applications – GE/Alstom Energy Management System (EMS), Transmission Adequacy & Reliability Assessment (TARA), Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA), Transmission Line Loadability (TLL), System Operations Requests (SOR), PI DataLink, PERL, Primavera Unifier, Microsoft PowerBI required.

  • Experience in analyzing complex problems and demonstrating good judgment in decision making is essential.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage diverse projects.

  • Demonstrated experience in accomplishing responsibilities in a timely manner through maximizing organizational resources and employing logical approaches.

  • In depth knowledge of computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook) required with core understanding of applicable technical products and/or services.
