Farmingdale State College invites applications for an Instructional Support Associate in the Department of Architecture and Construction Management.

INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

The Instructional Support Associate supports instructional and laboratory activities within the department. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting students and faculty in various laboratory spaces including surveying, materials lab, computer lab, and drafting rooms.

  • Purchasing materials and equipment for lab courses such as drafting with large format plotting, surveying, engineering materials for lower division material courses, and modelmaking with 3-D printers.

  • Setting up, maintaining, and organizing equipment, materials, and storerooms for field work, model making, and experiments.

  • Conducting, developing, or supervising modelmaking and experiments, ensuring quality control of materials used in 3-D printing.

  • Providing guidance and instruction on equipment usage, materials handling, and recording laboratory exercises or compiling 3-D printer files.

  • Coordinating logistics for final presentation displays during preliminary and final presentations.

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES:

In addition to instructional support, the associate will assist the department chair with various administrative tasks, including:

  • Class scheduling, book orders, and preparation of accreditation materials.

  • Providing student advisement.

  • Assisting with departmental budget preparation and tracking.

  • Preparing and monitoring work orders related to classroom and laboratory operations.

  • Coordinating software purchase and installation in collaboration with academic information technology staff.

  • Supervising college work-study students and/or student assistants as needed.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Technology degree in a related field to department programs.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Aptitude and attitude for learning new processes and use them effectively on the job.

  • Capability of lifting weight (medium) and outdoor physical supporting work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College-level construction instructional support technician experience or experience in a certified construction material testing department or organization.

  • Experience using software for drafting, 3-D printing, estimating, and/or construction management platforms used in routine project management.

  • One year of experience supporting laboratory activities in the technical area either in industry or academia.

  • Graduate of Farmingdale State College.

    Additional Information:

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Wednesday, July 24, 2024, and ending Tuesday, August 6, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Open Until Filled

  • SALARY: $50,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $53,400 Total Compensation.
