POSITION SUMMARY:

The HR Communications Specialist will develop and execute communication strategies, campaigns, messaging and supporting materials that advance understanding of and engagement in MPC’s Human Resources programs. These include programs and topics related to benefits; talent management; career and leadership development; compensation; diversity, equity and inclusion; and compliance. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to deliver HR information through easy-to-understand and compelling content that resonates with leaders, supervisors and employees across the enterprise. This role reports to the Manager, HR Communications.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience. One role is expected to be filled from this requisition and can be based in Findlay, OH, San Antonio, TX or Houston, TX.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and execute multi-channel employee communications plans for ongoing and new HR programs.

  • Build and maintain trusted relationship with HR program owners and subject matter experts by providing strategic counsel on messaging and best practices for engaging employees, including helping to advance a Total Rewards mindset.

  • Write/produce and edit communications content (emails, infographics, intranet stories, videos, etc.) that helps to achieve HR and business objectives.

  • Collaborate on design and content for HR intranet pages to enhance the employee experience.

  • Coordinate with other HR Communications team members to holistically manage communications timing and sequencing to help ensure effectiveness; liaise with other Communications teams as needed.

  • Measure impact of communications efforts and develop insights to inform future strategies; stay up-to-date on emerging communications approaches and tools.

  • Align HR content with the company vision, priorities and values, as appropriate, including implementing communications strategies that support an inclusive company culture.

  • Work cross-functionally with other Communications teams to ensure consistency and cohesion, including Communications Business Partners, Digital and Social Media, Event Services, and Creative Services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Major in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, human resources, business or related field are preferred.

  • Minimum six (6) years of experience producing communications for a variety of channels and audiences at a medium to large-sized corporation or public relations firm

  • Energy or manufacturing industry experience preferred

  • Experience with SharePoint, Poppulo and Workday is preferred

SKILLS:

  • Creative storyteller with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all types of employees and leaders, from front-line workers to executives

  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, continuously changing environment with a high-degree of autonomy, accountability and accuracy, including concurrently managing multiple priorities

  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build strong relationships and work effectively in a matrixed organization

  • High curiosity; eager to learn and understand a wide range of HR subject matter

  • Strong writing and content development skills, including when under pressure

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to details, including ability to develop and manage production schedules and status reports for ongoing and project work
