Job Summary:
Plans, implements and assesses a program of instruction that adheres to the District's mission, philosophy and objectives.
Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.
Essential Functions:
- Direct the band and choir classes during the school day.
- Direct the after school marching band during the Fall season.
- Maintain new extracurricular ensembles (Pep Band)
- Provide performance opportunities for all students throughout the school year.
- Possess the ability to relate positively with students, parents, and other teachers.
- Be able to work collaboratively with other professionals.
- Plan and organize daily class time appropriately to maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide a productive environment at all times.
- Create a positive, nurturing, and supportive learning environment for all students to reach their unique potential.
- Create a culture that will help recruit and retain students.
- Demonstrate knowledgeable pedagogy on all instruments.
- Demonstrate positive communication skills with parents, colleagues, and administration.
- Possible opportunity to propose and develop new courses.
- Represent and promote the instrumental music programs internally and externally.
- Other responsibilities include: advising students, serving on committees, and other routine duties.
Education:
Michigan Teacher Certification with appropriate Music endorsement required
