Position Summary Information Position Summary    The Counseling & Student Development Division employs Licensed Professional Counselors as College Readiness Faculty. This part-time faculty position will teach a range of College Readiness classes (e.g. Study & Learning Skills, Stress Management, etc.). Emphasis is placed on skill development and application that supports student success.

 

Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job:

Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. As learning facilitators, faculty consistently assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness (pedagogy). As professionals, faculty adhere to the ethical standards of their profession as outlined, for example, by the NEA and the State of Michigan. Where applicable, faculty maintain licensure and certifications. In addition, faculty have the following key responsibilities which include:

Specific Teaching Assignment: 

Faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in the College Readiness Discipline of the Counseling & Student Development Division, adhering to the stated course objectives, content, and delivery methods.

 

Counselor /College Readiness Faculty will: * Teach courses in required subject area * Develop an instructional plan (known as a course outline or syllabus) for the course(s) they teach and ensure that it meets college and department standards * Plan lessons and assignments * Work with colleagues to develop or modify curriculum for a program of series of courses * Assess students' progress by grading assignments, papers, exams, and other work * Stay informed about changes and innovations in their field Minimum Requirements    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  1. Master's degree in counseling from an accredited University. *

  2. Current Michigan Licensure as a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) or a Licensed Professional Counselor or eligible to obtain licensure upon hire.

  3. Incumbents must provide proof of current license and certification and maintain their licensure and certification as a condition of employment.

  4. Evidence of continuing professional development in the field of Counseling

  5. Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching, mission and philosophy.

  6. Innovative, flexible and positive teaching style and understanding the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.

  7. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  8. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

  9. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited stand
