DESCRIPTION

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Communications Director shall oversee, direct and coordinate all official city communications. The Director is to ensure all communications are consistent, timely, and relevant. The Director will be the principal spokesperson for the city in response to media or public inquiries.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  WorksunderthedirectsupervisionoftheCityAdministratorwhoreviewsworkthroughconference and reports.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May exercise working supervision over employees engaged in a variety of tasks pertaining to multimedia communications, media and/or special projects related work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops key messaging on behalf of the City of Flint as well as coordinates with nationwide media and public relations efforts.

Performs work associated with producing press releases, and related public information materials. 

Serves as the representative for the city in situations that require publics peaking.

Cultivates and maintains relationships with multiple media outlets to enhance the City's image.

Oversees and manages content on the City's website and social media pages. Addresses public inquiries/complaints quickly and effectively on behalf of the city.
