All duties performed are done so in a training situation in which the employee is learning the necessary techniques of a Health Unit Coordinator.)
Responsible for documentation and maintenance of patient's records on assigned unit; transcribes physician's orders including medication information and other pertinent data from patient's medical record to CISCO and appropriate forms.
Inventories, requisitions, receives and maintains equipment and complete supplies on unit assigned; enters stock supply into information system; requests special orders, additional supplies and equipment maintenance as needed.
Acts as receptionist in assigned area, answers telephone courteously; gives staff, physicians and visitors prompt and accurate information.
Performs clerical duties for assigned unit, enters patient information and other pertinent data into computerized information system as required; completes necessary forms and maintains medical records.
Prepares requests for laboratory, radiology or other services/treatments as warranted by physician's orders; follows up to see that requests are received and completed; obtains data as directed; notifies appropriate party of results obtained.
Maintains unit nursing personnel records; reports staff and attendance in assigned areas as required.
Processes communication, maintains bulletin board and distributes mail on assigned unit.
Routinely assesses unit to maintain a satisfactory physical environment, reports problems and needs to appropriate party in a timely manner.
Performs other services or errands as directed; i.e. delivers specimens to laboratory, medication orders to pharmacy.
Attends education/developmental programs as assigned.
Education
- High school graduate and/or GED equivalent plus completion of a Health Unit Coordinator program --OR- completion of a Nursing Assistant certificate program.
