Flint Community Schools Special Education EI Classroom Teacher (Emotional Impairment) in Flint, Michigan

Job Summary:

Responsible for providing appropriate educational experiences to meet the needs of students enrolled in Special Education Programs (including cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities).

Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.

Essential Functions:

  1. Design curriculum and develop instructional strategies.
  2. Complete and maintain necessary records.
  3. Evaluate students' progress and prepare reports that detail progress.
  4. Test and evaluate student's cognitive abilities.
  5. Plan, organize, and provide instructional services to students individually, in small groups and in resource room environment.
  6. Recommend changes in student's school and class environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities to provide greater access to the general education curriculum.
  7. Communicate with parents/caregivers.
  8. Work cooperatively with other teachers and special education ancillary staff.
  9. Observe, analyze, and describe the instructional strategies being applied in an educational situation.
  10. Function as a team member of a team in designing appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities.
  11. Understand basic behavioral management concepts and demonstrate ability to develop, implement, and incorporate appropriate behavioral management techniques.
  12. Supervise and work with teacher aides, volunteers, and paraprofessionals.
  13. Adapt teaching support materials to meet student needs.
  14. Adapt general and special curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual learning styles.
  15. Serve in a consultative capacity with individuals and groups, including teachers, parents, and students.
  16. Attend Multi-disciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Planning Team (IEPT) meetings when requested. 

Qualifications:

Education: Shall hold a State of Michigan teaching certificate with K-12 certification. Must have endorsement in emotional impairment (SE).
